When Life Happens: The Importance of Rest, Reflection, and Rebooting

August came and went, and honestly, I missed my usual blog post. The truth is, I was overwhelmed. Burnout hit me hard, and my creativity took a back seat. I had nothing left to give, and for a moment, I felt like throwing in the towel. Sometimes life happens, and we’re left with no mental space or capacity to figure things out. It feels like you're standing at a crossroads, unsure of which direction to go. And that’s okay.

But in those moments, it’s important to pause, take inventory, and tap into your community. For me, it was a time to step back, regroup, and gain a fresh perspective. I realized it’s okay to acknowledge when we need a break, but what’s more important is finding the strength to keep going.

Over the past month, I’ve been preparing for the Country Apple Fest, which will take place on September 28th and 29th at the Warren County Fairgrounds. This year, I’ll be selling my caramel apple muffins both days. These muffins are slightly bigger than last year, but they still carry that classic “apple pie in a muffin” taste with a rich salted caramel filling. I’m excited to share them with everyone who comes out to the fest!

In prepping for a two-day market event like the Country Apple Fest, I’ve learned a few things along the way. If you’re ever setting up for a market, here are a few tips that might help:

Tip #1 - Confirm the average number of attendees

Knowing how many people are expected helps you plan how much product to bring. Based on expected attendees, decide on quantities so you’re not under or overstocked

Tip #2 - Take inventory of your needs

Make a detailed list of ingredients, tools, and supplies and go shopping.Get your supplies in advance so you’re not scrambling.

"Don't be afraid to fail; baking is all about trial and error. The more you practice, the better you get." Paul Hollywood.

Tip #3 - Start your planning and prep work

Time is your biggest asset, so break down what you need to make and when. Start any prep work with your ingredients ahead of time.

Tip #4 - Start your baking at least 30 days in advanc

If possible, freeze items that can be frozen without affecting quality, and organize your baking days. 30 days is the minimum but it all depends how many products you need.

Tip #5 - Order packaging and labels

Don’t wait until the last minute to get the materials you’ll need to present your goods professionally.

Tip #6 - Recruit Help

Whether it’s family or hired hands, extra help is essential when you’re managing a booth for two days.

Bonus Tip- Promote on Social Media

Build excitement! The earlier you get the word out, the better.

Life has a way of throwing curveballs, but with a little rest and a solid plan, you can get back on track, stronger and more determined. I can’t wait to share my creations with everyone at the Country Apple Fest this year!
